YOU DON’T HAVE TO CARRY THIS ALONE

Trauma Can Affect More Than You Realize

Trauma affects everyone differently.

You may find yourself feeling constantly anxious, emotionally numb, overwhelmed, stuck, hypervigilant, or disconnected from yourself and others. For some, trauma shows up in panic, people-pleasing, relationship struggles, difficulty sleeping, or intrusive memories.

You do not need to “just get over it.”

Traumatic experiences can change how the brain and nervous system respond to stress—but with the right support, healing is possible.

At Southport Psychology, our trauma counselling services help you process difficult experiences safely and at your own pace.

OUR APPROACH TO
TRAUMA THERAPY

Personalized, Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing trauma.

At Southport Psychology, we tailor treatment to your unique experiences, nervous system, and goals. Our trauma therapists use proven, evidence-based therapies to help process difficult memories, reduce emotional distress, and restore a sense of safety and empowerment.

EMDR THERAPY (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Helping Your Brain Heal from Trauma

EMDR therapy in Calgary is an evidence-based trauma treatment designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel as emotionally overwhelming.

During EMDR sessions, you’ll briefly focus on difficult memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, often through guided eye movements or other techniques.

EMDR can help:

✔ Reduce emotional intensity tied to traumatic memories
✔ Decrease triggers and emotional overwhelm
✔ Improve emotional regulation and nervous system healing
✔ Support recovery from PTSD and unresolved trauma

Many individuals find EMDR helpful for both recent traumatic events and long-standing trauma.

COGNITIVE PROCESSING THERAPY (CPT)

Reframing Trauma and Unhelpful Beliefs

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is another highly effective trauma treatment used to support healing from PTSD and trauma-related symptoms.

Traumatic experiences can leave behind painful beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world.

CPT helps individuals:

  • Identify unhelpful thinking patterns connected to trauma

  • Challenge shame, guilt, fear, or self-blame

  • Develop healthier, more balanced perspectives

  • Improve emotional well-being and resilience

  •

Together, we work to help you feel more empowered and less controlled by the impact of trauma.

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS) THERAPY

Healing the Parts of You Carrying Pain

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy recognizes that we all have different “parts” within us—especially after difficult experiences.

Trauma can leave certain parts feeling wounded, protective, fearful, or stuck in survival mode.

IFS therapy helps you:

✔ Understand different emotional patterns and reactions
✔ Build self-compassion and inner trust
✔ Heal wounded parts carrying trauma
✔ Create greater emotional balance and inner harmony

Rather than fighting against yourself, IFS encourages healing through understanding and compassion.
